YEAR 7 MARKET DAY: THE $20 BOSS

June 17, 2024

The Year 7 quad was transformed into a bustling hive of activity at the end of Term 2 as our industrious Year 7 students put their business acumen to the test. Armed with creativity and determination, these young entrepreneurs set out to turn $20 into as much money as possible for charity, creating a vibrant scene of commerce and camaraderie along the way.

This annual event serves as the exciting culmination of the students’ Economics unit. Throughout the term, they have been immersed in learning the fundamentals of economic theory, gaining hands-on experience by setting up their own small businesses. The anticipation was palpable as students prepared their stalls, eager to showcase their products and business strategies to the School community.

The variety of goods on offer was impressive, reflecting the interests and talents of the students. Among the items for sale were free-range eggs, raw honey, a range of homemade pet treats, beautifully potted succulents and of course, no market would be complete without an array of delectable cakes and biscuits.

The students demonstrated remarkable salesmanship, engaging with customers, handling transactions and managing their inventory. The atmosphere was electric, with laughter, negotiations, and the sweet aroma of baked goods filling the air.

After the final sale was made and the books were balanced, the results were nothing short of astounding. The Year 7 students collectively made an impressive profit of $10,578, with the entire amount donated to Anglicare WA.

The Year 7 Market Day highlights the practical application of the boys’ classroom learning, this memorable event not only enriches their understanding of economics but also fosters a spirit of entrepreneurship and philanthropy that will undoubtedly benefit the students in years to come.
