Hale School’s 1st hockey team has set itself up for a great season ahead after winning the Melbourne Grammar School Invitational Schools’ Hockey Championship.
During the April school holidays Hale School sent a senior hockey squad of 16 students and two staff to Melbourne, in the lead up to the winter PSA hockey season.
This was Hale School’s third visit to the tournament, having played in the final in 2014 and 2017, losing to New Zealand teams on both occasions.
Hale was one of 12 schools from around Australia playing for the Melbourne Grammar International Schools Cup and the only Western Australian team.
The boys in blue went through the tournament undefeated, finishing on top of the ladder followed by St Peter’s College, Adelaide.
Midfielders Ben Arnold (Year 12), Padraig Munt (Year 11) and Charlie Johnston (Year 12) were the standout players of the tournament for Hale School, with Ben scoring three goals in the final.
The trip proved to be an extremely valuable experience for the boys and ideal preparation for the PSA hockey season.
Hale School’s 1st XI are the reigning PSA premiers, having won the Ray House Cup for the last two seasons (joint winner with Christ Church Grammar School in 2022).
